Partnership Indicates New Cooperation Between Diverse Forms of Transit as Urban Travel Becomes Increasingly Multi-Modal
HUDSON COUNTY, New Jersey – Lyft is now an official sponsor of Hudson Bike Share, the two companies announced today. Hudson Bike Share and Lyft will collaborate to provide a seamless and environmentally- friendly transportation option throughout Hudson County, enabling riders to travel more seamlessly to downtown areas and other forms of transit.
Hudson Bike Share launched in Hoboken in October 2015 and just last year expanded to Weehawken, West New York, Guttenberg, North Bergen, Bayonne and Port Imperial for a total of 560 bikes. The system currently has 22,436 registered members and has clocked over 390,000 rides since inception.
“This is an exciting moment for mobility as the ways we all get around diversify by the day, from bike share to rideshare, scooters and buses,” said Ann Ferracane, General Manager of Lyft New Jersey. “By supporting Hudson Bikeshare, we’re able to make it easier to combine modes of transportation. From taking a Lyft to Weehawken and exploring downtown by bike, or taking bike between towns and a Lyft complete the journey, this partnership makes easier to imagine living car-free in many areas of New Jersey. We believe that together, we can make commuting and exploring a fun and seamless experience.”
“This partnership speaks to the energy and momentum Lyft currently has in the mobility industry,” said Carlos Pujol, CEO of P3GM, which operates Hudson Bike Share. “By supporting bike share Lyft is helping to enhance our cities and neighborhoods. Bike share, in alignment with rideshare, eliminates the need for a personal car, which helps limit congestion and pollution.”
Bike share bikes throughout Hudson County will be branded with the Lyft logo to remind riders to choose alternative forms of transportation for healthy, environmentally-friendly commuting and travel.
Existing Hudson Bike Share riders who try Lyft for the first time and download the app can use code NJBIKE18 for $15 in free ride credit.
To become a member of Hudson Bike Share, new riders can register online or download the NextBike app on their mobile device. The cost of the program is $95 per year or $12.95 a month and includes unlimited 45-minute trips. Riders can also choose a pay-as-you-go option for $2 per 30-minute ride.
